GLBT Liaisons Around The USA & Beyond
« Thread Started on May 28, 2011, 10:30pm »

I've noticed in recent months that more and more departments are starting to post on-line that they have a GLBT Liaison position within their PDs. I think it would be neat to start a thread where we just give the link to the departments that support GLBT Liaisons. This may sound sort of geeky but in my spare time I like to google random police departments to see what they have to offer. I say if you find a GLBT position that is posted on-line. copy the link and post it here. Lets see how many we can get!

One thing to keep in mind is that many departments do not have a formalized "GLBT Liaison" or unit, rather they have their officers all trained in how to work with the various ethnic/cultural minorities within their jurisdiction.

I know that Minneapolis Police does not have a formalized structure for GLBT concerns from the public or in the ranks. Rather it is more informal. All officers, during their training, are expected to work with several community organizations that are prominent within the community. This will expose officers to cultures outside their own and get them to think. It's all about education.

In my honest opinion I would like to see every officer trained in how to effectively deal with people from diverse backgrounds rather than just a few.

Oh I agree. I'm just seeking out Departments that recognize a GLBT Council or Liaison. Its becoming more and more frequent that City PD websites are starting to add GLBT as a Community based outreach program. I realize that many PDs do not post that information on their sites. I'm merely seeking out those who do.

I am putting together a panel of LGBT Liaison officers, from around the county, to discuss their activities at the Las Vegas conference.
